Trying Linux on some laptops

November 2008.

I took a Fedora Core 9 Live CD to Future Shop and tried booting it on four laptops.

Toshiba Portege M800

The machine boots from the CD and recognizes the hard drive. X11 starts but cannot find a working monitor, and drops to command line. The built-in Ethernet and WiFi interfaces are not recognized.

LG E300

The machine boots from the CD and recognizes the hard drive. X11 starts but the screen is black. The Ethernet interface comes up (Marvell) but the WiFi is not recognized (Ralink).

Dell Inspiron 1526 (Turion 64)

The machine boots from the CD and recognizes the hard drive. X11 starts OK. The network card (Broadcom bcm4310) is not recognized.

Dell Inspiron 1525 (Centrino T5750)
